Palazzo Versace Dubai won the Best Luxury Hotel of the Year Award at the annual Middle East Hospitality (MEHA) Awards Gala Ceremony that took place in Dubai. The awards acknowledged excellence across the region’s diverse hospitality sector by rewarding hotels, resorts and restaurants that have demonstrated exceptional performance, innovation and visitor relations in the last year.

Winners in each of the 17 categories, which ranged from Luxury Hotel of the Year to Best Use of Technology, to the MEHA Lifetime Achievement Award were crowned by a distinguished judging panel of industry leaders.

Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas appoint Alistair Anderson as general manager of Six Senses Krabey Island

Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas has appointed Alistair Anderson as general manager of Six Senses Krabey Island. The resort, scheduled to open in 2018, is located on a private island and is comprised of 40 pool villas set on a 30-acre site and is served by watercraft transfers from a mainland reception facility.

Alistair brings more than 25 years of experience to his new role, having worked with international and independent hotel groups. These include Rooms and GM assignments with Hyatt International in Sydney and Canberra, Aman Resorts in London, Bali and Australia plus the Merrivale Group in Sydney. He also includes the Commonwealth Club in Canberra and Sir Stamford at Circular Quay in Sydney in his career highlights. Alistair also spent time as a lecturer at William Blue International Hotel School, Sydney.

Alistair joins Six Senses Krabey Island from his previous role as operations manager at Two Wolves Community Cantina, a social enterprise of The Cardoner Project, Sydney.

An Australian, Alistair is a keen participant in the sport of road cycling and swimming.  He is deeply interested in all things related to food and beverages, as he believes sharing great meals can be some of life’s most memorable moments. He also has a dream to one day master snow skiing and surfing.

Alistair will be accompanied by his wife, Anna on his newest adventure.

ITDC celebrated successful completion of 50 years

India Tourism Development Corporation, under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, organized a grand function on 18th of October, 2016  to mark the completion of successful  50 years of ITDC in the field of hospitality and tourism at the convention hall of The Ashok, A flagship property of ITDC.


Shri. Vinod Zutshi, Secretary, Government of India, Ministry of Tourism graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor. Present among other dignitaries were Shri Umang Narula, Chairman and Managing Director, ITDC; Shri Piyush Tiwari, Director (Commercial and Marketing), ITDC; Shri Pradip K Das, Director (Finance), ITDC along with Ex C&MD’s of the organization, ITDC staff and other respected guests. Sh. Ashwani Lohani, C&MD, Air India & ex C&MD ITDC also graced the occasion.


The highlight of the evening was 50kg 5 storey cake with 50 ingredients made by 50 employees, live entertainment and cultural performances including live performances by the famous poet Surendra Sharma and Ability Unlimited Group, popularly known as ‘notorious’ for their distinctive style of dance-theatre with innovative technology.

Making this occasion more significant, ITDC announced free sound and light shows for the Indian Armed forces and their immediate family members at Purana Quila and Red Ford. The free service for the armed forces will be available till March 2017.


Raffles Hotels & Resorts Singapore announced to embark on careful and sensitive restoration programme

Raffles Hotels & Resorts Singapore has announced that it will embark on a careful and sensitive restoration programme. The restoration of this acclaimed heritage hotel, owned by Katara Hospitality, a globally recognised hospitality owner, developer and operator, will be conducted over three phases to ensure every detail of the programme is approached with careful consideration.


Phase one of the programmes will begin in January 2017 and see the Raffles Hotel Arcade undergo restoration works while other areas of the property operate as normal.  The Raffles Hotel Arcade is an integral part of this landmark building, offering a broad range of facilities for visitors to enjoy. It houses 40 regional and specialty shops, indoor and outdoor function areas including The Ballroom and The Lawn and a variety of restaurants and bars including well-known Long Bar, home of the iconic Singapore Sling.  The Singapore Sling will continue to be served at the hotel’s Bar & Billiard Room during the first and second phases of restoration.


Phase Two will begin in mid 2017 when restoration efforts will commence on the main hotel building and Lobby as well as a portion of the hotel suites. Following that, Raffles Hotel Singapore will close for the final phase near the end of 2017 before a grand reopening in the second quarter of 2018.

The restoration project will be led by Aedas Singapore, a leading global architecture and design firm who was behind restoration projects including the London Coliseum and the revitalised Mallory Street/Burrows Street in Wan Chai, Hong Kong. The interiors of the project will be handled by award-winning designer Alexandra Champalimaud who has worked with many high profile luxury hotels around the world including New York’s The Plaza, Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, The Dorchester in London and the Waldorf Astoria in New York.


“This restoration is designed to ensure that we retain what is so special about Raffles Hotel Singapore – the ambiance, the service, the charm and the heritage of the hotel. Declared a National Monument by the Singapore Government in 1987, Raffles Hotel Singapore has through the years, gained both local and international recognition as an oasis for the well-travelled with its unique blend of classical architecture and tropical garden setting.  Raffles Hotel Singapore is considered a national treasure among Singaporeans who deeply value its historical significance and unique heritage.


The last restoration was conducted from 1989 to 1991 where the hotel closed for two and a half years.  The luxury hotel has 103 individually designed suites – 84 Courtyard and Palm Court Suites, 12 Personality Suites, 5 Grand Hotel Suites and 2 Presidential Suites.

Singapore Airlines announces special fares to New Zealand
